Supplying gas and electricity on the NSW border
NSW residents living on the border with other states and territories may be supplied with gas or electricity from interstate. In these cases, it may not be possible to extend competition in the energy market to these customers at the same time as other NSW residents.

Look below to see how you may be affected by the different competition timetable in other states.

Your gas supply

Albury and Murray Valley - Gas is supplied from Victoria, which is not expected to allow householders to choose their supplier before October 2002.

Howlong and Corowa - Gas is supplied from Victoria, which is not expected to allow householders to choose their supplier before October 2002.

Queanbeyan and the Yarrowlumla Shire - Gas is supplied from the Australian Capital Territory, which has introduced competition at the same time as NSW.

Tweed Heads - Gas is supplied from Queensland, which is not expected to allow householders to choose their supplier until January 2003.

Walla Walla - Gas is supplied from Victoria, which is not expected to allow householders to choose their supplier before October 2002.

Your electricity supply

Tweed Valley - Electricity is supplied from Queensland and distributed to your house via the network of NSW energy company, Country Energy. Electricity customers in this area will continue to be supplied by Country Energy and will be able to choose their supplier from 1 January 2002, the same as other NSW customers.

Wentworth - Electricity is supplied from Victoria and distributed to your house via the network of NSW energy company, Australian Inland Energy and Water. Customers in this area will be able to choose their supplier from 1 January 2002, the same as other NSW customers.

Williamsdale - Electricity is supplied from the Australian Capital Territory and is distributed to your house through ActewAGL's network. NSW customers in this area will be able to choose an electricity retail supplier when competition is introduced in the ACT.
