2012 International Student Awards
The International Student of the Year Awards...
Celebrating its second year, the Awards were established to recognise and celebrate international students and the contribution they make to NSW and communities in NSW.
The International Student Awards aims to encourage social engagement, not only within the international student community, but to the broader NSW community.
The NSW International Student of the Year Awards offers an opportunity to showcase initiatives and achievements of international students in higher education, vocational education and training, English language, and schools programs.
Education providers were asked to nominate students for the 2012 Awards. Nominations were submitted for the following categories:
- Schools
- English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)
- Vocational Education and Training (VET)
- Higher Education
Nominations were received from candidates representing a diverse range of countries, including China, Chile, Burma, Mozambique, Pakistan, Nepal, Solomon Islands, Philippines and Indonesia.
Finalists
An initial assessment is completed by peak organisations representing the higher education, vocational education and training, English language, and schools sectors.
The Selection Panel
A Selection Panel, formed to assess the nominees, meet to judge the winners of the Award in all categories.
The members of the 2012 NSW International Student of the Year Selection Panel were:
- Mr Stepan Kerkyasharian AO, Chairperson, Community Relations Commission
- The Hon Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director, Sydney Business Chamber
- Ms Janice Peterson, Presenter and Journalist, SBS World News Australia
