The NSW Government is encouraging residents to get involved in local events for Bike Week 2012.
Transport for NSW will provide $250,000 in funding to support more than 50 local cycling events as part of the 2012 NSW Bike Week celebrations.
This year’s NSW Bike Week will run from 15 - 23 September and will promote cycling as a healthy, easy, low cost and environmentally friendly way of getting around.
Transport for NSW will sponsor NSW Bike Week events across the state, including local rides, family fun days, displays and bike safety demonstrations.
The NSW Bike Week events provide an opportunity for people of all levels of fitness to experience the benefits of cycling as a fun and a healthy transport choice.
This year’s NSW Bike Week events are also designed to promote the importance of safe cycling and help cyclists understand their responsibilities towards pedestrians, other riders and motorists.
Last year’s Bike Week was the most successful since its launch in 1995 with more than 10,000 participants taking part in local events.
Everyone can participate in NSW Bike Week events, and the NSW Government particularly encourages new and less confident cyclists to get involved.
