About our precincts

Regional Job Precincts are areas of regional NSW which have been identified as potential growth areas for industry.

The precincts provide a planning framework designed to support local councils, regional communities, industry and businesses with greater confidence around future investment and development.

The initiative will drive local planning changes, investment and new jobs in regional NSW. The focus will be on locations with region-specific 'engine' industries and businesses, which are ready for development.

Our approach

Work on the Regional Job Precincts has commenced.

The NSW Government is helping to develop technical studies. Planning support is provided through teams of specialist planners.

These teams work with councils, businesses and communities to:

  • identify their unique needs
  • audit local planning rules
  • find opportunities to streamline processes and progress existing developments.

After the initial round is completed, the initiative will be reviewed by the NSW Government. The goal is to see how it may be rolled-out to further locations across regional NSW.

The planning framework is the backbone of the Regional Job Precincts and is developed and implemented in six key steps. This ensures mechanisms are in place for industry to access and comply with a streamlined planning process.

Once the technical studies are complete, the draft master plan is exhibited for public comment.

1.

Determine feasibility

Identify the gaps and barriers to economic growth in the local planning system.

2.

Engage council

Collaborate with local council to address planning barriers.

3.

Develop action plan

Prepare a plan outlining recommended changes to the local planning system.

4.

Investigate precinct

Commission speciality studies and consult with the community.

5.

Implement planning changes

Support and drive the implementation of required planning instrument changes.

6.

Implement the precinct

Provide ongoing case management and support investor attraction.
