Towards 2030 - planning for our changing population
In NSW, as in most parts of the world, major population changes are taking place because of declines in fertility and increasing life expectancies. In NSW, the number of people aged 65 and over will increase from 0.9 million people in 2006 to an estimated 1.8 million in 2030.
Towards 2030: Planning for our changing population is the Government’s strategy for managing this demographic change. The strategy draws upon community consultations and the work of 120 leading decision-makers and experts from government, business, industry who came together in 2007 at the Government’s Roundtable Ageing 2030: Creating the future.
The strategy builds on the work already being undertaken by the NSW Government to build a strong foundation for the future.
