Bellambi is a place of rich cultural heritage significance and Bellambi Point holds strong value in the cultural landscape. The area is home to many First Nations people who are deeply connected to Country in this area.

Homes NSW acknowledges the Dharawal Wodi Wodi peoples as the Traditional Custodians of Country, and the First Nations community who care for Country in this place.

Bellambi renewal

Homes NSW is reviewing its social housing portfolio across Wollongong.

The Bellambi estate has been identified as an area suitable for future housing renewal. Homes NSW has been working with the community since mid-2024 to understand what renewal may look like in the future.

Renewing Bellambi will allow us to build more, new social, affordable and private homes that better meet the needs of community.

Through renewal, we can transform local housing supply as well as the infrastructure, facilities and services that will support the needs of the Bellambi community, as it grows over time.

Community consultation

Homes NSW has been working with the community to understand their needs and aspirations for the future renewal of the Bellambi estate.

In June 2025, we shared the draft Bellambi People and Place Plan – a document shaped by your input and designed to guide the next phase of renewal.

The Bellambi People and Place Plan puts people at the centre of planning by outlining the community’s vision, directions, and recommendations for future renewal of the Bellambi estate.

Thank you to everyone who had their say. Your voices, lived experiences and recommendations helped shape updates to the draft Plan. The updated Plan is available here (PDF 6.26MB).

Upcoming consultation

Homes NSW has submitted a Rezoning Proposal to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to request changes to the planning controls in place for the Bellambi estate.

The Rezoning Proposal is an important step in the renewal process that outlines the land uses, housing types and infrastructure required to guide renewal of the estate in the future.

The Rezoning Proposal will be available for the community to view in early 2026. Homes NSW will host community drop-in sessions in Bellambi, where you can view the Rezoning Proposal and ask questions.

Important information for social housing residents

The proposed renewal of the Bellambi estate is a long-term project that will take many years to deliver. We are only in the very early stages of planning.

Social housing residents living in Bellambi are not being asked to move at this time.
