Overview of this event
Who was Howard Hinton — the man behind one of Australia’s greatest art collections? A Portrait of Howard Hinton uncovers the life of this enigmatic philanthropist, moving beyond the familiar image of a shy bachelor who gave away his fortune for art. Drawing on Hinton’s long-lost diary and years of meticulous research, Margaret Bain reveals a vibrant, generous, and deeply connected figure at the heart of Sydney’s cultural scene in the early 20th century. Join us for an in conversation with the author of A Portrait of Howard Hinton, Margaret Bain and join a book club style conversation where we will unpack some of the themes and questions that have emerged in reading the book. Haven’t read the book? You can pick up a copy at the Museum Shop or just pop along anyway.
