Overview of this event
Echoes of the East launches the 2026 season with an inspiring celebration of musical colour, drama, and cultural influence. This vibrant program explores how Romantic-era composers drew inspiration from Eastern landscapes and national identity to create music of lasting power. The concert opens with Alexander Borodin’s 'In the Steps of Central Asia', an evocative tone poem that unfolds like a musical panorama. Gentle melodies paint scenes of distant horizons and tradition. At the heart of the evening is Franz Liszt’s 'Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat', performed by acclaimed soloist Channing Chu. Brimming with virtuosity, passion, and theatrical flair, the concerto dazzles while offering moments of lyrical beauty. The program concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s 'Symphony No. 7 in D minor', a gripping and emotionally charged masterpiece whose dramatic intensity and triumphant conclusion bring this opening concert to a powerful close.
