Applying acknowledgement
Understand how to acknowledge NSW Government funding for infrastructure and capital works projects to ensure branding and approval requirements are met correctly.
Introduction to applying acknowledgement
If you, or an organisation you work for, have received NSW Government funding for an infrastructure and capital works project you must acknowledge the NSW Government for its contribution. This is a condition of receiving the funding.
Check the funding agreement or contact your NSW Government representative who organised the funding to confirm acknowledgement requirements. All funding acknowledgements must be approved by the NSW Government.
Where to apply acknowledgement
Unless otherwise stated in the funding agreement, all funding recipients for infrastructure and capital works projects must acknowledge NSW Government funding on all communications related to the funded project, if produced:
- annual reports
- media releases (and other public statements related to funding)
- related websites and digital communications (where space permits)
- related print materials
- related presentations and event collateral
- related signage produced by funding recipient (if applicable)
- opening event invitations/speeches
- plaques are optional (use opening plaque template, if applicable)
- hoarding and banner mesh (if applicable).
Additionally, NSW Government funding acknowledgement signage is a mandatory requirement if you have received $100,000 and over in funding for an infrastructure and capital works project. Refer to the signage and plaque guidelines for specific requirements and templates.
Funding recipient cost responsibility
It is the responsibility of the funding recipient to coordinate and pay for any costs relating to the design, production, printing and placement of these communications, including signage.
How to acknowledge infrastructure and capital works funding
Acknowledging funding from the NSW Government for infrastructure and capital works projects is important so that the community understands the NSW Government’s contribution. This can be done in the following ways:
- applying the NSW Government logo with an acknowledgement label, and/or
- using acknowledgement statements that appear alongside the NSW Government logo or within the copy of a communication (where space permits).
The NSW Government logo with acknowledgement label, and advice regarding the correct acknowledgement can be provided by the NSW Government representative responsible for administering your funding.
You must submit all artwork that acknowledges funding (including communications related to the project) to your NSW Government representative for approval. Once approved, you can organise publishing, printing or production. Find out how get support if you need it.
Where the NSW Government is the only funder of a project, or in co-funded projects where there is limited space to include multiple logos, you can apply the NSW Government logo with an acknowledgement label. Sizing should be adjusted on the communication to maintain legibility and readability.

Option 2: ‘Proudly co-funded by’ acknowledgment label (use when there are multiple funders)
The use of a NSW Government logo with an acknowledgement label creates an important visual and text communicator of funding, so this should be used where space and design permits.
The NSW Government logo with acknowledgment label can be provided by your NSW Government representative responsible for administering your funding.
If there are multiple co-funders, there may be a preference to list all logos together with a single funding acknowledgement label above to collectively acknowledge their funding contribution. This gives clarity to the relationship between different co-funders, and can be used where space and design permits.
Use one of the following funding acknowledgement labels:
- Funded by
- Proudly funded by
- Co-funded by
- Proudly co-funded by
Funding acknowledgement labels should be:
- Minimum of 12px for digital
- Minimum of 9pt for print
The NSW Government logo should be visually equivalent in size to other logos. It should have at least twice the width of the ‘N’ (of the NSW Government logo) as a minimum clear space between it and other logos.
Example:

When ordering logos the majority funder should appear first. The order of logos can be adjusted to reflect the scale of contribution of each funder, or as specified in your funding agreement.
Acknowledgement statements are another way of acknowledging funding.
An acknowledgement statement is a short piece of text that can appear in the body copy, next to a logo, or on its own to communicate the source of funding or provide additional context where needed.
- Text only acknowledgement statements can be used to acknowledge funding on communications when it is not possible or suitable to use a logo, or where there is limited space e.g. text on a social media post.
- Acknowledgement statements can be used next to the NSW Government logo on communications where there is sufficient space and/or when more complex funding information needs to be communicated.
When acknowledgement statements are used alongside logos, text needs to meet minimum size requirements for legibility and readability.
Examples:

For larger communications where there is sufficient space, and depending on the acknowledgement requirements of your funding, a longer acknowledgement statement can also be used:
- to provide more clarity for complex funding relationships
- when there is a requirement to mention the grant name.
Always check your funding agreement, or with your NSW Government representative, to see if you’re required to use specific wording for an acknowledgement statement.
It’s up to the NSW Government department that organised the funding to provide you with the most appropriate funding acknowledgement wording.
Unless otherwise stated in your funding agreement, use the following acknowledgement statements as a guide for these funding scenarios:
Fully funded by NSW Government
Proudly funded by the NSW Government
Multiple co-funding contributors
Proudly funded by the NSW Government, [contributor name], and [contributor name]
Examples of use when:
- separate funding contributors for a single project
- NSW Government funding is received (regardless of amount)
- contributors are not operating under a formal joint funding arrangement.
Joint funding contributors
Jointly funded by the NSW Government, [contributor name] and [contributor name]
Examples of use when:
- formal joint funding arrangement in place
- working collaboratively with other funding contributors
- acknowledging contributions equally
Multiple funding contributors where the funding initiative name needs to be mentioned:
Proudly funded by the NSW Government, [contributor name] and [contributor name] through the [name of funding initiative]
NSW Government contributes funding and another contributor provides non-monetary support
Proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with [non-monetary contributor’s name]

Rules for acknowledgement statements
- Do not use a NSW Government department names unless there is a clear customer need or a requirement in the funding agreement.
- In addition to the NSW Government, a maximum of 3 co-funding contributors can be acknowledged.
- Do not include the names of private sector contractors and delivery partners (for example, construction, development, architectural and design companies) in funding acknowledgement statements.
- Funding acknowledgements must be approved by the NSW Government representative from the department administering funding before publishing, print or production.
Using the NSW Government logo
To maintain the clarity and integrity of the NSW Government logo, a minimum clear space around the logo (including the funding acknowledgement label) is required that represents 100% of the width of the ‘N’ in all applications.

Primary logo minimum size - Print
In print use, the NSW Government logo should be used at no smaller than 20mm high.

Primary logo minimum size - Digital
In digital use, the NSW Government logo should be used at no smaller than 60px high.

Full colour
The full colour logo must be given preference over all other versions.

Reversed
In rare instances where our primary logo does not have sufficient colour contrast to be easily read on a certain background, a full colour reversed option can be used. The primary full colour logo should be your first choice and used wherever possible.

Legibility is the primary consideration when selecting the background colour on which you place the NSW Government logo.
Use of the mono (black or white) is permitted when a design cannot accommodate the full colour or reverse (red waratah) logos or when colour reproduction is not available or appropriate. This includes:
- budget restrictions only allow for black and white printing.
- the material used is better suited to or can only accommodate black and white.
- accessibility issues with colour being used on certain backgrounds, for example insufficient colour contrast.
Where there are multiple funding logos in mono on the one communication then the mono version of the NSW Government logo can be applied.
All other logos alongside the NSW Government logo will need to appear in the same monotone.

If in doubt, discuss with your NSW Government representative who administers your grant funding, who can seek further advice from their departmental brand team if required.
For NSW Government agencies only: For NSW Government-led communications including funding acknowledgement, Masterbrand and co-brand agencies must still seek approval from the NSW Government Brand team before using mono logos on communications.
Legibility is the primary consideration when using the logo. There must be sufficient contrast between the logo and the background.

Typeface and font
When applying the NSW Government logo with acknowledgement labels or statements, text must be clear and legible.
NSW Government signage and plaque templates and logo assets are embedded with Public Sans typeface and must be used as supplied.
Where external funding recipients need to apply acknowledgement labels and statements in text on their own communications, they may use their own brand fonts, or other clear, accessible typefaces, to meet their own visual identity requirements.
NSW Government-led communications should follow the NSW Government Visual Identity System, including using Public Sans where possible.
Capitalisation: use minimal capitalisation. Only capitalise the first word of a sentence and proper nouns (e.g. names of people, places, organisations).
