Understand how to correctly acknowledge the NSW Government when co-funding has been received for an infrastructure or capital works project from more than one funder.
Introduction to co-funded projects
An infrastructure and capital works project is co-funded when more than one party contributes funding towards the same project. Each funder may have separate agreements and different acknowledgement requirements.
If there are multiple funders involved in a project, NSW Government funding must be acknowledged for its contribution as a condition of funding.
Before you acknowledge co-funding
- Check your funding agreement(s)
Each funder may have specific acknowledgement requirements as a condition of funding. It’s your responsibility to ensure these requirements are met. - Confirm what funders need to be acknowledged
Identify all funding contributors that need to be acknowledged (co-funders can be NSW Government, Australian Government, private sector and not-for-profit organisations).
Do not include private sector contractors and delivery partners (for example, construction, development, architectural and design companies) in co-funding acknowledgments or NSW Government funding acknowledgment signage. - If acknowledgment requirements aren’t specified, follow guidance below
If your funding agreement(s) does not specify how to acknowledge co-funding, and the NSW Government has contributed, you must acknowledge the NSW Government and any other funders using the general guidance below.
Rules for acknowledging co-funding
- If NSW Government funds a project with other co-funders (excluding Australian Government)
Use NSW Government funding acknowledgement guidance and signage templates (when signage is required for NSW funding of $100,000 or over). NSW Government must be named first, with up to 3 funding contributors on signage and in acknowledgement statements. This is a condition of funding, regardless of who the majority funder is. - If NSW Government funds a project with other co-funders (including Australian Government)
Get in touch with your NSW Government funding representative if your funding agreement(s) includes an Australian Government funding contribution. They can seek advice from NSW Government Brand team on signage and how to apply acknowledgement. - Logos can only be included on NSW Government funding acknowledgement signage for monetary contributors
Acknowledgement of significant non-monetary contributors on funding acknowledgment signage must be in text only. Requests to do so are assessed on a case-by-case basis by your NSW Government funding representative, who must obtain approval from the NSW Government Brand team.

Acknowledging co-funded projects with no Australian Government funding

Acknowledging co-funded projects including Australian Government funding
Where the NSW Government and Australian Government provides funding towards a project (with or without other co-funding contributors), funding acknowledgement requirements vary depending on the funding arrangement in place.
If your funding agreement(s) include an Australian Government funding contribution, contact your NSW Government funding representative. They can seek advice from the NSW Government Brand team on signage and how to apply acknowledgement requirements.
Acknowledging non-monetary (in-kind) contributions
Logos cannot be included for non-monetary contributors on funding acknowledgement signage. Funding recipients may request approval to acknowledge a significant non-monetary (or in-kind) contributor on funding acknowledgment signage. If approved, this should be in text only. Your NSW Government funding representative must assess if appropriate, and seek further approval from the NSW Government Brand team before it can be included.
You may acknowledge non-monetary contributors in text on other project-related communication materials (excluding signage) without seeking approval from the NSW Government Brand team.

Getting approvals from multiple funding contributors
If your project has multiple funding contributors, you must get approval from each contributor for all co-funding acknowledgments:
Review requirements
Check all applicable funding and acknowledgment requirements and ensure they are met.
Contact your representative
Contact your NSW Government funding representative and other funding contributors to obtain approved logos, artwork templates and acknowledgement statements.
Apply the NSW Government logo
Apply co funder logos and/ or acknowledgement statements to communications and signage, where required.
Approval by your NSW Government representative
Submit communications and signage for approval to your NSW Government funding representative and other funding contributors. Include details of:
- co-funding arrangements and amounts
- context of use
- timing
Approval from all co-funders
Do not print, publish or produce materials until written approval is received from all co-funders.
