Insurance for incorporated associations
Learn about insurance options for incorporated associations in NSW, including types of coverage, requirements, and resources for community organisations.
The Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (the Act) does not require any specific type of insurance for incorporated associations.
An incorporated association must comply with relevant State and Commonwealth laws. It may need to hold insurance under other applicable legislation. An incorporated association with employees may be required to hold workers' compensation insurance.
You may wish to seek independent professional advice on what insurance your incorporated association may need.
Determining if your incorporated association needs insurance and what type you will need
As part of their corporate governance obligations, committee members are responsible for:
- assessing the risks applicable to the activities of the incorporated association, and
- determining if insurance is required and, if so, the type and level of cover.
Several insurance policies may be appropriate. For example:
- public liability insurance
- directors' and officers' liability insurance
- associations liability insurance
- personal accident insurance
- occupational health and safety cover
- workers compensation insurance
- property and/or contents insurance
- fidelity insurance
- building insurance
- travel insurance.
