Sydney Startup Hub transition to Tech Central
Building a stronger entrepreneurial community where innovators thrive.
Tech Central - Australia’s leading district for technology and innovation
Tech Central, a six square kilometre district bordered by Haymarket, Camperdown, and South Eveleigh in the heart of Sydney’s CBD has the highest concentration of technology businesses anywhere in Australia, including Atlassian, Block (Afterpay), Canva, Safety Culture and Rokt, along with 150 research institutes and two world leading universities. It also has the highest density of venture capital in Australia.
In December 2024, the NSW Government announced the Sydney Startup Hub would transition Tech Central to ensure founders, entrepreneurs, investors, corporates, and the entire innovation ecosystem, can collaborate within Australia’s leading district for technology and innovation.
This decision was made after consultation with the anchor tenants, who support the move, as well as other key stakeholders.
Why transition the Sydney Startup Hub from Wynyard?
The Sydney Startup Hub opened in 2018, providing entrepreneurs with a dedicated workspace to connect and create partnerships.
However, the Hub is not commercially viable and there has been feedback from the startup community that the current accommodation model at Wynyard is not aligned with their needs going forward.
New accommodation at Tech Central will include a refreshed service offering more attuned to supporting diverse people and teams to startup and scale successfully. It will continue to offer an affordable place for both startups and scaleups to meet, collaborate, work and grow.
This move helps ensure startups and scaleups can collaborate with an entire ecosystem right on their doorstep. It’s all about giving the support to build Australia’s next tech unicorn.
Tech Central Innovation Hub
On 1 September 2025, the services of the Sydney Startup Hub will transition to the Tech Central Innovation Hub, located at 477 Pitt St, Sydney.
The Tech Central Innovation Hub (TCIH) will provide a vibrant public space ideal for events, casual meetings, quick catchups, or solo work sessions as well as supporting the regional and international landing pads.
The TCIH will provide state-of-the-art facilities and expert support for businesses at all stages of growth in the innovation ecosystem. Affordable space will be offered through memberships, co-working, dedicated desks and offices. Whether you need to work from the hub for a day, three days, or full-time, the TCIH will offer affordable options to meet your team’s needs.
The NSW Government is engaging closely with key stakeholders at the Sydney Startup Hub to facilitate a smooth transition and service continuity for the Hub’s residents.
The TCIH sits alongside a number of other initiatives announced by the NSW Government in the 2025-26 NSW Budget which includes nearly $80 million to bring the NSW Innovation Blueprint 2035 (PDF 1.87MB) to life. This includes $38.5 million to turbocharge Tech Central. For more information, see the 2025-26 NSW Budget Papers.
