Renewing or changing your certifier registration
Information about renewing or changing your building and development certifier registration.
Renewing your registration
Individual certifiers
Applications for renewal of individual registrations must be submitted via the NSW Building Certifier's Portal.
Note: Even if you renew every 3 or 5 years, you must still submit evidence of professional indemnity insurance every year to Building Commission NSW.
Corporate registration
Submit an application for corporate registration via the NSW Building Certifier's Portal.
Note: Even if you renew every 3 or 5 years, you must still submit evidence of professional indemnity insurance every year to Building Commission NSW.
Registration that expired less than 90 days ago
If your individual registration expired in the last 90 days, you can lodge an application to reinstate your registration via the NSW Building Certifier's Portal.
Applications to reinstate your registration are only available for individual certifiers. Corporate registrations are ineligible for reinstatement.
You can't carry out any certification work until you've been advised of your application's outcome.
Varying your registration
To have the conditions of your existing class of registration removed or changed, you must submit an application to vary your registration via the NSW Building Certifier's Portal.
You will need to provide evidence that you hold a recognised qualification and satisfy the knowledge, skills and experience requirements for registration in NSW relating to the condition you are wanting to remove or modify.
If you are registered in NSW through the mutual recognition pathway and want to remove conditions, you will also need to complete the UTS Certification Short Course.
For more information, see Schedule 2 and Schedule 3 of the Building and Development Certifiers Regulation 2020 and Applying to become a certifier page.
Voluntarily surrender or suspend your registration
You may need to surrender or suspend your registration for a variety of reasons including taking an extended absence from work or your employment status has changed.
You can do this by submitting an Application for Voluntary Surrender or Suspension of Registration in the NSW Building Certifier's Portal.
Changing your details
It’s important that Building Commission NSW has your current details.
If you need to let us know of a change to your personal, business, employment or insurance details you can update your record using the Change of Details application form in the NSW Building Certifier's Portal.
This form must be submitted within 14 days of your details changing.
