Check your venue’s Local Impact Assessment (LIA) band in NSW to see gaming machine risk levels and application rules for your local area.

The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (Authority) classifies all areas within NSW based on the risk of introducing additional gaming machines into that area under the Local Impact Assessment (LIA) scheme.

The Authority applies a risk ranking system to geographical boundaries established by the Australian Bureau of Statistics called Statistical Area 2s (SA2s).

SA2s are classified as Band 1, 2 or 3 to reflect the risk of introducing more gaming machines in an area.

The Authority classifies SA2s annually.

LIA Band Map Session 1 - Navigating the home page

Welcome to Session One, navigating the LIA band  map homepage. This view of New South Wales will 
be displayed when opening the LIA band map. The  purple dots represent hotels and the orange dots 
represent clubs. Each SA2 band is colour coded  and the colours are for SA2 Band 1 is beige, 
SA2 Band 2 is yellow and SA2 Band 3 is  pink. Also on the screen you will see 
icons displayed in the top left and also on  the right hand side of the screen. The top 
left icons we have zoom in and zoom  out below that we have the home icon 
and this allows the map to revert to the  default setting and further down we have 
find my location and this will zoom in to  display your current location on the map.
The icons in the top right we have search this  is where you can type in a particular address 
or even search via a venue name, below that we  have the layers icon and this allows you to turn 
on and turn off particular layers within the map  so to demonstrate I will turn off the venues and 
that just displays the SA2 bands now I'll turn  off the SA2 layers and that just displays the 
venues and there is also an LGA border and  that's displayed with a red line as shown 
there's also a legend in this layer and that has  the categories for the venues and the SA2 layers.
Beneath that we have the base layer base map  and this allows you to select different styles 
of maps which are relevant to your search,  further down we have these two filters the 
first one being the venues filter and  beneath that the SA2 filter and also 
these icons in the bottom right will be  discussed in further sessions along with 
those venues and SA2 filters, therefore  this concludes session one thank you.

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 2 - Searching  by Venue. There are a couple of ways to search 
a venue as discussed in session 1 there is  the venue filter on the right hand side and by 
clicking on this the popup box displays. We'll  enable the toggle in the top right corner and 
this will automatically display the results and  the location of the venue once selected. In this 
example I'm going to click on the licence  name and type in "Avoca" for the Avoca Beach
Hotel. Now I've selected the venue you can  see it has zoomed in on the location of 
the venue and you'll need to go over to  the top left to zoom out to the desired
view. It also displays information on the venue  and it has the SA2 information as well as the 
venue information. To remove that just click the  box in the top right corner and we'll click the 
home icon to go back to the default setting of  the map, however as you can see there is a blue 
dot over on the venues filter and that indicates  that there is still search criteria selected so to 
remove that we need to click on the filter scroll  to the bottom and select the reset filter icon and 
that will remove any filters. The other way to  search a venue as mentioned in session 1 is 
to click on the dots on the map themselves the  purple dots are hotels and the orange ones are
clubs, as you can see Wilcannia Golf Club has 
displayed and the information is the  venue details as well as the SA2

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 3 Searching by SA2 Bands. This time we'll 
navigate to the "Pan Filters" icon which is in  the middle right of the screen, once the popup 
box is displayed, enable the toggle and we're  going to navigate to the "SA2 Band" dropdown. 
In this example we're going to search by SA2  Band 2 so click on the option with number 2 
and as you can see on the map only the yellow  SA2 areas are displayed. To clear this we then 
scroll to the bottom of the popup box and there  is the "Reset filters" icon and now all SA2 areas 
are displayed on the map. The other way that  we can search for an SA2 is by a particular 
I guess area and in this scenario I'm going  to search the Cobar SA2, again ensure that 
the toggle is enabled in the top right, then  navigate to the SA2 name drop down and type in
"Cobar" and as you can see only the SA2 area for  Cobar has displayed. Again, to clear this I'm 
going to reset the filter and this will  take the map back to the default setting

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 4 - Search  on Focus Filters. The focus filters are on the 
right-hand side of the screen in the middle and  in this example, we'll be searching by suburb. 
When you click on the filter ensure that the  toggle is enabled in the top right corner and 
then scroll down to the suburb dropdown and  in the search bar I'm just going to type of
"Avoca" as you can see the map has  zoomed in on the location of the 
venue within the suburb of Avoca and  also displays the grey popup box with 
the SA2 information for the suburb.  If you don't need this information 
you can close the grey box and navigate across  to the top left to zoom out to the desired view
as we can see the Avoca Beach Hotel is the  only gaming venue in the suburb. Once you're 
finished with your search remember to go  back to the filter and the blue dot 
indicates that there is search criteria  selected, so to remove this click on the 
filter and scroll to the bottom and select the  reset icon and this will take the map back to 
the default setting. This concludes Session  4 - Searching on Focus Filters, thank you.

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 5 - Searching  on Pan Filters. Navigate to the Pan Filter on the 
middle right of the screen, the difference between  the Pan filter and the Focus filter discussed in 
Session 4 is that the Pan filter will not zoom  in on the location of the search criteria. The 
options that can be selected are SA2 bands by SA2  name or at a licence level we have the Licence 
types, Sub Licence type whether it's a small  medium or large club or hotel, the Regions country 
or metropolitan, LGA's and also via Suburb.  In this example I'm going to be searching via 
region and selecting "Metropolitan". Ensure that  the toggle is enabled and as you can see now the 
venues are only displayed within the metropolitan  area of Sydney. I'll zoom in just to show that 
those areas are bordered by Newcastle, the Blue  Mountains and Wollongong. Once you finished with 
your search always remember to check if there's  a blue dot cause that indicates that the reset 
button needs to be selected and as well I'll  navigate across to the home icon to revert the

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 6  Selecting a specific address. To do 
this we'll navigate to the top right  corner and select the magnifying glass
icon. In this example I'm going to search 2 Hassall 
St in Parramatta which is the  location of the Commercial
Hotel. As you can see it has zoomed in on the
venue and you can go across to the zoom in  and out icons to zoom out to the desired 
view and as you zoom out you'll see it  also shows other venues in the vicinity 
of this address. Once you finished with  this search just close the grey popups 
and you can navigate across to the left  to the home icon to reset the map back to

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 7 - Map  appearance. It's possible to change the appearance 
of the map by turning layers on and off. To do  this we navigate to the top right and select 
the second icon down, within this icon there's two  tabs we have "Layer" and "Legend", the Legend tab 
provides a description of what's displayed on the  map where we have the orange squares representing 
clubs, the purple dots representing hotels and  then further down the SA2 Layers which are for SA2 
Band 1 is beige, SA2 Band 2 is yellow and SA2 Band  3 is pink. I'll now click to the Layer tab and the 
default options are Venues and SA2 Layers which  are displayed on the map, there is a third option 
which is LGA borders that can be selected and  as you can see on the map this is now displayed 
with red lines. You have got the option to turn  the Venues, SA2 Layers and LGA Borders on and off 
so to demonstrate I will turn off SA2 Layers  which is now showing the venues within the LGA
borders. I will remove the LGA  border as that is not a default 
option and I will enable the SA2  Layers again to get the map back 
to the default setting and this concludes  Session 7 on map appearance, thank you.

the map to centre on your current location  and to do this we navigate to the top left 
corner and select the icon below the home  icon at the bottom, click on the icon and 
as you can see it's zoomed in to your current  location. You can then zoom out to the desired 
view, also you can click the home icon which will  revert the map back to the default setting and

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 9 - Change  the underlying base map. The underlying base map 
by default is the topographic style this can be  changed to other styles that may suit your needs 
better, so to do this we navigate to the top right  and select the third icon down this will then 
display all the different map options and in this  example I'm going to select "Streets" then close 
out of the map, I will then navigate to the top  icon and type in the search bar "2 Hassall St" in
Parramatta and it will then zoom in on  the venue location. I'll zoom out to 
my desired view and as you can see the map  provides a lot more of a street and detailed
view. Once you're finished with the map  you can click the home icon however it 
won't revert the map back to the topographic  view you will need to click back on the base 
map icon and scroll to the bottom and select  topographic or the relevant map option. This

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 10  Finding distances between two points. 
To find the distance between two points  on the map, navigate to the toolbar in 
the bottom right corner and select the draw a  polyline icon which looks like the letter "N"
once you've clicked on the icon ensure that show 
length measurement toggle is enabled  and the unit options for selection are 
kilometers or meters. In this example  we will use the default unit option of
kilometers. I'll now navigate across to the  map and do a single mouse click on a venue 
then drag the mouse to another venue, this  creates the dotted line and then do a double
click, as you can see the line has now become  grey and also populates the distance which 
in this example is 272 km. If you need to  make changes or clear the distance search, 
navigate back to the same toolbar and select  the eraser icon which is second from the 
right and this will clear the search  results. Once you finished navigate 
across the toolbar to the very left and select the  arrow icon and this will revert the cursor back to

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 11 -  Finding the radius around a point on the 
map. Please zoom the map in to the desired view,  in this example I have zoomed in on the town of 
Cobar. I'll now navigate to the toolbar in the  bottom right corner selecting the circle icon, 
ensure that the toggle buttons at the bottom  are enabled, then I will navigate to the 
venues on the map selecting the "Great  Western Hotel". I will do a single click 
holding the cursor in and then dragging out  to include the surrounding venues within the
circle this has returned a result of  2.1 kilometer circumference and now 
I will navigate to the "Draw  a Polyline" icon back on the
toolbar and again do a single click  on the "Great Western Hotel", this time you 
need to hold the cursor in and then taking  the line out to the edge of the circle and 
doing a double click and this has returned a  result of 0.3 km radius from the Great Western 
Hotel. Just a couple of handy hints with this  option once you're finished or if you need to 
make any changes, please use the "Eraser"  icon which is on the second from the right 
and just ensure that the lines are grey not dotted  in order to clear the search. Then I'll navigate 
across to the far left to the arrow icon and  this reverts the cursor back to the default

Welcome to the LIA Band Map Session 12 - How to  mark a point on the map. I'm currently zoomed 
in on the town of Cobar and we'll navigate to the  toolbar in the bottom right corner and select the 
"Draw a point" icon. You can select the style of  pin that you'd like to use and then navigate to 
the map, do a single mouse click to drop the pin  in the relevant area and you can drop multiple 
pins. As discussed in sessions 10 and 11 you can  also use the "Draw a polyline" and "Draw a circle" 
icon if you'd like to measure the distances  between the pin and an existing venue, for
example. Once you're finished with  this search, navigate to the toolbar 
and select the "Eraser" and this will remove  all functionality used on the toolbar and you 
can also navigate to the top selecting the  "Home" icon to revert the map back to the 
default setting. This concludes session 12  How to mark a point on the map, thank you.
