Special Event Extended Trading

Longer liquor trading hours have been confirmed for events of regional, State, or national significance across NSW. The events, extended hours, and any conditions attached can be viewed below.

decorative

Special Event Extended Trading is an initiative under the Section 13 of the Liquor Act 2007 where extended trading hours for licenced premises can be declared for events that hold regional, State, or national significance.

The extended trading hours apply to venues automatically, provided they meet the eligibility criteria for the event. Eligible venues do not need to apply or register to access the extended trading. Relevant conditions are listed in the table below.

Licence types eligible for extended trading:

  • Hotels
  • General bars
  • Clubs
  • Small bars
  • On-premises related to a restaurant
  • Producer/Wholesaler licence with a drink on premises authorisation or a special drink on premises authorisation
  • Dedicated live music and performance venues.

Note to venues

  • All licenced venues listed in the tables below will be able to participate in the extended trading, subject to the conditions listed
  • Special event extended trading overrides development consent trading hours
  • Venues already able to trade beyond these longer hours can trade as usual
  • Extended trading hours apply only to drinks sold on premises, not takeaway alcohol sales
  • Individual trading restrictions or other special conditions that apply to a venue’s liquor licence also remain in place for these events
  • Section 13 of the Liquor Act 2007 does not authorise the operation of gaming machines during an extended trading period.

What if your event isn’t listed?

Special event trading hours only apply to the events shown on this page. If your venue wants to trade beyond its usual hours for a different event, you may be able to apply for an Extended Trading Authorisation (ETA) - Special Occasion (PDF 375.71KB).

For additional information on licensing requirements, see liquor licensing and licensed venues and events
