We want to make sure that people have the appropriate skills and knowledge to work in, supervise, or manage people in our industry.
Individuals in roles with significant responsibility are required by the Liquor Act 2007to be considered a fit and proper person. A probity inquiry is an investigation to ensure that a person is appropriate.
To determine whether someone is fit and proper we consider the following factors:
- the person’s character and whether they have the reputation for honesty and integrity both in their professional and personal life
- the competency of the person to conduct business in the industry.
If you are the subject of a probity inquiry, we advise you to be truthful and cooperative. You should provide full disclosure on both your application form and in any discussions we have with you.
Failure to fully disclose matters is likely to result in the refusal of your application, and may also be a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to $5,500 or six months imprisonment.
