NSW Government brings Hospitality and Racing roadshow to Ballina and Byron region
The NSW Government’s Hospitality and Racing Regulatory Roadshow is heading to the Byron and Ballina region on Tuesday 23 September, continuing its statewide tour to engage directly with industry stakeholders.
Following successful events across 12 NSW regions - including Broken Hill, Wagga Wagga, and Albury - the free roadshow will be held at Ballina Surf Club and aims to build closer ties between businesses across the region and government organisations.
It will provide local venue operators, licensees, and community leaders a unique opportunity to connect with senior government staff, gain insights into regulatory reforms, and access support services tailored to the sector.
Hospitality and Racing Deputy Secretary Tarek Barakat said the roadshow was a key part of the Government’s commitment to revitalise the hospitality industry through direct engagement with those working in the sector and by offering practical support.
“This roadshow is about bringing government to the regions - listening to the people who power our hospitality sector and ensuring they have the tools and knowledge for their businesses to thrive,” Mr Barakat said.
“We’re interested in hearing about their successes and challenges and working together on solutions to create safer, more dynamic venues that benefit both locals and visitors.
“This region is known for its vibrant tourism and entertainment scene, and we want to ensure local businesses are equipped to take full advantage of the opportunities created by the NSW Government’s Vibrancy Reforms and to understand their obligations to operate responsibly and safely.
“We have received positive feedback from past attendees who told us the roadshows provided a valuable forum to network with peers, share ideas and stay informed on key industry issues.”
The Byron/Ballina event will feature:
- Information on the NSW Government’s Vibrancy Reforms, such as:
- An 80% reduction in annual liquor licence fees for venues hosting live music.
- Extended trading hours for live entertainment.
- Simplified noise complaint procedures and takeaway alcohol authorisations.
- Updates on liquor and gaming reforms, including streamlined licensing processes and compliance requirements.
- Access to the Hospitality Concierge service, which helps businesses navigate regulatory changes and apply for government incentives.
- Stalls for attendees to collect information and chat to staff from Licensing, the Liquor Accords team, and the Office of Responsible Gambling.
There are 26 venues in the region taking advantage of the NSW Government’s Vibrancy Reforms that offer an 80 per cent reduction in annual liquor licence fees and the ability to stay open later when businesses host live music and entertainment.
The roadshow is part of the broader Hospitality and Racing Strategy 2025, which prioritises regional engagement and aims to build a vibrant, safe, and responsible industry across NSW.
The event is open to industry participants in the Ballina, Byron, Richmond Valley, Lismore, Tweed, Kyogle and Clarence Valley Local Government Areas.
