The use of external signage to promote poker machines and gaming rooms had been a longstanding concern in NSW. Despite clear legislative prohibitions, some pubs and clubs attempted to bypass these restrictions by using indirect terms such as VIP lounge, jackpot room and players area to imply access to gaming areas without explicitly mentioning poker machines.
