Become an Approved Training Provider

Training providers can apply to deliver Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) mandatory industry training for people seeking work in the liquor and gaming industry in NSW.

To become an Approved Training Provider (ATP) a Registered Training Organisation must first obtain approval to deliver the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course. Once approved, an ATP can then apply to deliver other mandatory L&GNSW courses.

Who can deliver the courses?

ATPs must nominate a trainer for approval to deliver mandatory L&GNSW courses including:

Nominate a trainer

Only an approved trainer can deliver L&GNSW mandatory industry training.

Nominated trainers are assessed against the legislative trainer qualifications and requirements as set out in the Liquor Regulation 2018 and Gaming Machines Regulation 2019.

It is the responsibility of ATPs to ensure nominated trainers are suitably qualified and experienced to deliver the L&GNSW mandatory courses applied for.

There is no fee associated with trainer applications.

The following documents and information will need to be gathered from the nominated trainer and verified by the ATP prior to completing the application:

  • current resume
  • industry employment references
  • certified copy of qualification(s)
  • verification of endorsements on trainer's NSW competency card
  • employment history that meets the legislative trainer qualifications requirements.

For all course types, the trainer must hold one of the following training and assessment credentials:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or
  • Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or
  • Diploma of Training Design and Development.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
  • A current NSW competency card with an RSA endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory position in a licensed premises (being a position with duties in relation to the service of liquor) from an Approved Training Provider, or equivalent qualifications.

or

  • A current NSW competency card with an RSA endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory position in a licensed premises (being a position with duties in relation to the service of liquor) plus an additional 1-year relevant experience as the Secretary considers equivalent. For example: assisting with the development of liquor house policies or procedures, assisting the management of day-to-day liquor operations, relevant training and/or assessment experience.
Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG)
  • a current NSW competency card with an RCG endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory position in a hotel or registered club (being a position with duties in relation to the conduct of gaming machine activities)

or

  • a current NSW competency card with an RCG endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory position in a hotel or registered club (being a position with duties in relation to the conduct of gaming machine activities) plus an additional 1-year relevant experience as the Secretary considers to be equivalent. For example: assisting with the development of gaming house policies or procedures, assisting the management of day-to-day gaming operations, relevant training and/or assessment experience.
Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG)
  • a current NSW competency card with a RCG and ARCG endorsement, and
  • A minimum 5 years’ experience in a of a managerial or supervisory position in a hotel or registered club (being a position with duties in relation to the conduct of gaming machine activities)

or

  • a current NSW competency card with a RCG and ARCG endorsement, and
  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory position in a hotel or registered club (being a position with duties in relation to the conduct of gaming machine activities) plus an additional 2 years’ relevant experience as the Secretary considers to be equivalent. For example: managing the development of gaming house policies or procedures, managing day-to-day gaming operations, relevant training and/or assessment experience.

Note: Responsible Gambling Board Oversight (RGBO) trainer requirements are the same as ARCG trainer requirements. Trainers who apply and are approved to deliver ARCG will automatically be approved to also deliver RGBO training should the ATP choose to deliver the RGBO course.

Licensee Training (LT)
  • a current NSW competency card with a Licensee endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior managerial position in a licensed premises (being a position with duties in relation to the service of liquor)

or

  • a current NSW competency card with a Licensee endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior managerial position in a licensed premises (being a position with duties in relation to the service of liquor) plus an additional 2 years’ relevant experience as the Secretary considers equivalent. For example: managing the development of liquor house policies or procedures, managing day-to-day liquor operations, relevant training and/or assessment experience.
Advanced Licensee Training (ALT)
  • a current NSW competency card with a Licensee and Advanced Licensee endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior managerial position in a licensed premises (being a position with duties in relation to the service of liquor)

or

  • a current NSW competency card with a Licensee and Advanced Licensee endorsement, and
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior managerial position in a licensed premises (being a position with duties in relation to the service of liquor) plus an additional 2 years’ relevant experience as the Secretary considers equivalent. For example: managing the development of liquor house policies or procedures, managing day-to-day liquor operations, relevant training and/or assessment experience.

Keep your details current

It is important that your ATP contacts are kept up to date and any contacts that are no longer connected to your organisation are removed. If you require any changes to your ATP contacts, please complete the online CC0800 ATP change of details form.

ATP online course management portal

The ATP portal is an online course management portal used by all Approved Training Providers to record details of students who successfully complete L&GNSW mandatory courses.

Renewal for approved training providers

The Liquor Regulation 2018 and the Gaming Machine Regulation 2019 provide for a 5-year approval period for training providers to deliver liquor and gaming mandatory training courses.

ATPs must apply to renew their application to deliver training every 5 years to maintain approved training provider status, and to retain access to the ATP online course management portal.

As part of the ATP renewal process, L&GNSW will review and assess each application and send a renewal email which includes:

  • instructions on how to apply for ATP renewal
  • the deadline to submit your renewal application
  • relevant fees
  • payment due date.
