Western Sydney: Supporting families, securing our future

Western Sydney is shaping the future of our state. It is home to one in three people in NSW and continues to be one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. With 2.9 million residents and an economy approaching $200 billion a year, Western Sydney is central to NSW’s economic strength and long-term prosperity. 

This is an exciting time for Western Sydney, so as the region continues to grow, the need for high-quality schools, hospitals, transport and essential services becomes even more critical. 

Western Sydney already has a strong industrial base in construction, manufacturing, freight and logistics. With the opening of the Western Sydney International Airport due later this year, and the expansion of the suburb of Bradfield, the NSW Government is helping create new opportunities in advanced and emerging industries. These investments are expected to support 20,000 high-quality jobs planned in advanced and emerging sectors, and a broader target of 200,000 jobs across the wider Aerotropolis alone. 

While growth of local jobs remains top of mind, we know that cost-of-living pressures are being felt more directly in Western Sydney now. Households are more likely to travel further for work and rely on cars, therefore facing higher costs for fuel and tolls. That is why this Budget provides practical, immediate support for families – temporarily reducing the weekly toll cap to $50, delivering a $100 discount on private vehicle registrations and freezing Opal fares at 2025 levels. 

We are proud that this Budget meets that challenge. It delivers targeted cost-of-living relief now, while making the long-term investments needed to support strong, connected communities. 

The 2026–27 NSW Budget continues the government’s strong record of delivery in Western Sydney. We are rebuilding essential services and investing in the infrastructure that underpins growth, helping people access jobs, education and healthcare closer to home. 

This Budget includes:

• $10.3 billion increase in NSW health funding, delivered with the Australian Government. 
• $4.1 billion for the delivery of new and upgraded Western Sydney schools and early learning facilities. 
• $3.8 billion for new and upgraded hospitals across Western Sydney. 
• $3.5 billion in additional investment for transport infrastructure and roads for Western Sydney. 

Together, these investments will support jobs, strengthen communities and help secure Western Sydney’s future for generations to come.
