About Burwood
Burwood is Sydney's cultural playground.
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Burwood is one of Australia’s most culturally diverse areas, reflected in its vibrant food, entertainment and retail options.
Burwood City Centre was accredited with a Purple Flag in April 2026, recognising the council’s commitment to creating a precinct that is welcoming, well‑managed and people‑focused, supporting residents, visitors, workers and businesses to enjoy the area after dark.
In 2025, Burwood was officially named the coolest neighbourhood in Australia and #16 in the world, according to Time Out Magazine’s global ranking.
Where is the Purple Flag precinct in Burwood?

Burwood Purple Flag runs through the Burwood town centre, along Burwood Road and extending through key streets including Railway Parade, Victoria Street and Deane Street.
The main strip and surrounding streets are lined with casual dining to late-night favourites, alongside major retail destinations like Westfield Burwood, Burwood Plaza and a range of supermarkets and specialty stores. In the precinct you can enjoy public spaces such as Burwood Park, along with cultural touchpoints like busking areas and public art, which contribute to the precinct’s strong sense of community.
Strong transport connections make the precinct easy to access for both locals and visitors, with Burwood Station at its centre, frequent bus services running along Burwood Road and surrounding streets, and ample parking options throughout.
