Information requirements when selling or renting out e-micromobility products
Retailers and suppliers must follow the Information Standard when selling or supplying an e-bike, e-scooter or other e-micromobility vehicle in NSW. Find out what product and safety information you must give customers and what notices you must display in-store and online.
Retailers and suppliers must comply with the Information Standard
If you sell or rent out e-micromobility vehicles like e-bikes or e-scooters in NSW, you must provide certain information at the point of sale or supply.
The Information Standard, introduced under the Fair Trading Regulation 2019 and updated in June 2026, regulates what guidance and warnings you must provide. This includes vehicle specifications, safety information and certain notices.
Customers must be given vehicle specific information at the point of sale or supply
You must provide customers with product details and safety information for the specific vehicle they purchase or hire.
You can use our template or develop your own layout and wording, but you must address all requirements set out in the Information Standard.

You can provide information physically or digitally
You must give your customers the required information at the point of sale or supply. You can supply it either:
- physically, for example with the safety manual, or
- digitally, for example by email or by providing a link to a webpage.
How to display product and safety information online and in-store
You must display specific information online and in-store for each e-micromobility model you sell or rent out.
Display requirements for all e-micromobility products
You must ensure your products carry an electrical safety approval mark. A safety approval mark is an alphanumeric code which is issued when a product model is certified and is listed on the Certificate of Approval under certificate number. This is different from a Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM).

Where to display the approval mark
- In-store: You must ensure safety approval marks are placed in a legible and permanent manner on the product itself, not just on product packaging. The Certificate of Approval for the product specifies where the mark must be displayed. For example, it can be on the label that displays the model reference code of the device.
- Online: The safety approval mark must be included on every website where an e-micromobility vehicle is listed. This may be in the product description section along with the product listing.
Additional display requirements for e-bikes
E-bikes must also prominently and legibly display the following compliance information:
- a ‘compliance tag’ for e-bikes that meet the EN15194 standard, or
- a ‘non-compliance tag’ for e-bikes that do not meet the EN15194 standard.
Where to display the tags
- In-store: A compliance or non-compliance tag must be attached to each e-bike displayed in-store.
- Online: A compliance or non-compliance tag must be uploaded to every e-bike listing, on every website where it is listed. You may upload an image of the tag to an online listing.

Additional display requirements for e-scooters, e-skateboards and self-balancing scooters
You must prominently display the following statement, exactly as written:
Before using this vehicle, check the applicable local laws relating to your intended use of the vehicle on roads and road related areas.
Where to display the statement
- In-store: The statement must be displayed on or near each product displayed for sale or hire.
- Online: The statement must be included in the product listing, on every website where it is listed.
Exemption for micromobility vehicle sharing services
Micromobility vehicle sharing services as defined under the Road Tansport Act 2013 are exempt from these display requirements. For more information on sharing services, visit E-bike and e-scooter sharing schemes in NSW.
