A mentally healthy workplace is a one where:

  • mental health is everyone’s responsibility
  • systems, policies and procedures are integrated, address mental health specifically and are embedded across the organisation
  • interventions are tailored to each work group
  • continuous evaluation and improvement is visible.

Free online programs

The NSW Government is helping to create mentally healthy workplaces by offering non-government businesses with fewer than 200 employees access to free programs.

Training for individuals’ mental health at work

A change in behaviour in yourself or a colleague, could be a sign support is needed. Learn how to understand and support someone struggling with their mental health or reach out for support yourself. This training is for all individuals such as workers and sole traders.

Your Mental Health at Work Interactive online Workshop

This 2-hour workshop, delivered live via Zoom by a clinical psychologist, is designed for all individuals including sole traders, employees, tradespeople, apprentices and volunteers.

The workshop will help you:

  • Understand the prevalence of mental ill-health and its impact.
  • Recognise changes in behaviour and identify the warning signs of mental ill-health.
  • Have effective conversations around stress, health, and wellbeing.
  • Implement wellbeing strategies into your personal and work life.

Training for managing mental wellbeing in your team 

Whether you’re a small business owner, senior leader, middle manager or team leader, find out how you can help make yours a mentally healthy workplace.

This 60-minute self-paced online training module developed by Black Dog Institute provides

  • information on identifying warning signs of mental ill-health
  • techniques to improve wellbeing
  • skills to support your team

Managing for Team Wellbeing online interactive workshop

3-hour workshop, delivered by a clinical psychologist from Black Dog Institute via Zoom to help you:

  • identify the signs of mental ill-health among your staff
  • take effective action to support them and your business, with an opportunity to discuss current issues you may be facing

The workshop is designed for managers, supervisors, people leaders and executive leaders. The workshop can be scheduled at a time that suits your business for up to 25 people leaders for each session.

For business owners and leaders 

Work health and safety advice that can help you create a mental health development plan that meets your business’ unique needs.

Free work health and safety advice

Focusses on the mental health capability of your business, by providing one on one tailored advice direct to your business by an organisational psychologist from Assure Programs. A short workplace mental health survey of your staff will be used to collect data to create a mental health development plan tailored specifically to your workplace. Advice can cover topics such as:

  • how to manage teams remotely
  • strategies to ensure you maintain connections and wellness while staff integrate back to work
  • how to help individuals through change and handling sensitive workplace situations will be provided.
