Vaccination in hotel quarantine
Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your loved ones, and the community from severe illness, hospitalisation and death from COVID-19. NSW Health is offering vaccinations to travellers while in hotel quarantine.
About hotel quarantine vaccination
At the end of your time in hotel quarantine, you will be given the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, with a choice of AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines. If you have already received a first dose of a different COVID-19 vaccine, please discuss this with the vaccination team and they will identify a suitable second dose vaccine for you.
It is not mandatory for you to accept the vaccination on departure from hotel quarantine and there are other ways for you to access vaccination in the community across Australia. At the end of this fact sheet, you will find information about the national COVID-19 vaccination program and how you can get vaccinated depending on the state or territory where you will be travelling to. This will also be useful for arranging your second dose of the vaccination.
Who can get a COVID-19 vaccine?
You are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination upon departure from hotel quarantine if you:
- are aged 12 years and over (18+ for the AstraZeneca vaccine)
- complete the repatriation screening process on day 13 of your stay in hotel quarantine, including returning a negative COVID-19 test result on day 12.
What is the process?
The timeline shows the process for accepting and receiving your vaccination.
Hotel quarantine vaccination timetable
|Day 10||You will receive a call from a staff member at Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) to confirm your interest in receiving a vaccination. This is not final, and you can decline the vaccination at any time until vaccination.|
|Day 13||Discharge screening will take place with you to ensure you are not displaying symptoms of COVID-19.|
If you pass your medical clearance, you can get vaccinated. Your vaccination date will depend on your check-out time:
A staff member will escort you to and from your vaccination which will take place in the hotel. You will confirm your consent before you are vaccinated on the day.
