Identity recovery service now available for NSW Government customers
Cyber Security NSW has delivered on a commitment in the NSW Cyber Security Strategy to establish an identity recovery service for NSW Government customers whose identities become compromised from a cyber incident.
The IDCARE Identity Recovery Service was launched at an event themed ‘Privacy and Care’ at the Joint Cyber Security Centre in Sydney on 16 July 2019.
IDCARE, Australia and New Zealand’s national identity and cyber support service, provides an informed and comprehensive response to any compromise of an individual’s identity information.
Chief Cyber Security Officer Tony Chapman announced the funding arrangement for the whole-of-government subscription, which will enable 500 individual referrals to IDCARE to be used by NSW Government departments and agencies as required.
“For customers of the NSW Government this arrangement means a more direct connection between residents of NSW and the specialist support available via IDCARE.
“As around one in three clients of IDCARE reside in NSW our arrangement is a very practical and meaningful way the NSW Government can support customers impacted by scams, identity crimes and cybercrimes,” Mr Chapman said.
Professor David Lacey, Managing Director of IDCARE, said a lot of members of the community find IDCARE’s specialist services after bouncing between organisations.
This arrangement is an Australian first and enhances the connectivity of IDCARE across all NSW Government departments, agencies and their customers.
“The NSW Government has shown great leadership in responding to the needs of those impacted. Connecting impacted residents to IDCARE quickly can make a real difference to the harm they experience online, the exposure they have to other crimes, and the timeliness of their response efforts,” Professor Lacey said.
