At Aboriginal Affairs NSW, we work in partnership with Community to support self-determination, celebrate achievements and elevate Aboriginal voices across government, to guarantee accountability and to drive positive change.
Our regional offices serve as vital hubs, ensuring that the support provided by Aboriginal Affairs across NSW, is accessible and tailored to the unique needs of each community.
On the ground, our dedicated regional staff play a pivotal role in supporting our Mob with:
- Grants and funding opportunities: We connect local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Aboriginal Businesses and unincorporated Aboriginal community groups with grant opportunities that support community-led initiatives and cultural projects.
- Community events: From cultural and language festivals, to educational workshops, NAIDOC celebrations and more, our regional teams collaborate with communities to celebrate achievements, amplify initiatives, and showcase the richness and strength across Aboriginal communities.
- Navigating government processes: Our staff provide guidance to community members, support engagement with various government agencies, and connect our communities with services.
- Crisis support and response: In times of need, such as natural disasters or health emergencies, our regional teams offer assistance, help coordinate relief efforts and ensure that our communities receive timely updates and support. Our Regional Teams also work to ensure the inclusion of Aboriginal voices in the Prevention, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery Phases of Emergency Management.
- Supporting businesses: We support Aboriginal businesses, by providing advice and networking opportunities to foster economic growth within Aboriginal communities.
- Collaborating with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Sector including; Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs), ACCOs, LDM Alliances and non-incorporated groups. Our partnerships with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Sector strengthen community governance, land management, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
- Enhancing service delivery: By liaising with non-governmental bodies/services and coordinating with other government agencies, we influence and support the effective delivery of programs and services aimed at meeting the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal communities.
“Walking hand in hand, side by side, we partner, collaborate and connect with community, culture and Country. Every step is planted firmly in truth, giving us strength to speak, wisdom to educate and opportunity to heal along every path we tread”
