About the program
BreastScreen NSW is part of BreastScreen Australia, a national program funded by the Australian Government and state and territory governments.
The program aims to find breast cancer early, before symptoms appear and before the cancer spreads. Finding breast cancer early:
- increases treatment options
- improves the chance of survival
- can reduce the need for more invasive treatment.
How BreastScreen NSW is delivered
- The BreastScreen NSW Coordination Unit is managed by Cancer Institute NSW.
- Screening and assessment services are delivered through nine BreastScreen NSW services.
- These services are located within and managed by Local Health Districts across NSW.

We have an ongoing partnership with Myer, which provides clinic space within their stores at Castle Hill, Parramatta and Penrith. This collaboration allows BCI to bring breast screening services closer to women in their everyday communities, making it easier and more convenient to participate.
By situating clinics within Myer stores, women can access screening in familiar, accessible locations while balancing work, family, and daily commitments. These community-based clinics also support outreach to women from diverse cultural backgrounds and provide a visible platform for promoting breast health awareness.
Through this partnership, Myer and BCI are helping to improve participation in breast screening and support early detection across Western Sydney.
BCI collaborates with community groups and advocacy organisations to improve culturally appropriate care and increase participation in breast screening. These partnerships help:
- raise awareness about breast cancer screening
- support under-screened and priority populations
- deliver targeted health promotion initiatives
- provide peer support and community education.
By working at a community level, we aim to reduce barriers to care and improve equity in breast cancer outcomes across Western Sydney.
Westmead Breast Cancer Institute works with research institutions, universities, and training providers to advance breast cancer care and develop the future health workforce.
Through these partnerships, BCI supports:
- access to new treatments and clinical trials
- education and training for healthcare professionals
- research, mentoring, and evaluation of outcomes.
These collaborations ensure patients receive evidence-based, high-quality care while building clinical expertise across the health system.
