Introducing the Bradfield Development Authority

On 1 July 2024, the Western Parkland City Authority became the Bradfield Development Authority (BDA), led by new CEO Ken Morrison (pictured right).

We’re focused on building a stronger future for Western Sydney by delivering Bradfield City Centre and attracting investment to the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.

We look forward to continue to partner with industry, businesses, and the community on this exciting work.

Bradfield City Centre Master Plan approved

In September, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully announced the approval of the Bradfield City Centre Master Plan.

The Master Plan outlines how the city will grow over time, laying the foundations for 10,000 homes, 20,000 jobs, investment opportunities and industry growth, and more than 36 hectares of green open space to be enjoyed by residents, workers and visitors.

It will guide the development of Bradfield City Centre into a thriving 24-hour, 7-day ecosystem of culture, creativity, and innovation for years to come.

Women shaping Bradfield City Centre

Earlier this year we celebrated 6 women helping to shape Australia’s newest city.

Bringing expertise, talent and passion to their roles, the women – Jodie Vo, Project Manager (BDA), Marybeth Abraham, Cadet Project Officer and Yerin Lee, Student Project Manager (NSW Public Works), Azin Danesh, Senior Contract Administrator and Amanda Bruhn, Construction Cadet (Taylor), and Gina Field, Managing Director (Nepean Regional Security) – work across all areas of delivery at Bradfield City Centre.

Generating new opportunities for women to work in advanced industries like aerospace, defence, advanced manufacturing, medtech and circular economy, Bradfield City Centre will deliver economic empowerment with women given parallel chances to earn, learn and lead.

Jodie Vo:

We're at Bradfield and this is the First Building

I think every day The Authority we've got women on the ground. We've got our partners on site, and the people we work with, so it's just business as usual.

Amanda Bruhn:

With this new city there have been a lot of woman involvement, and I think that that's helped accelerate the progress.

Marybeth Abraham:

Women do make up half the population, so they always bring unique perspectives and diverse opinions.

Azin Danesh:

Working construction motivates me. There is a good support for female within the industry.

Yerin Lee:

I love building stuff, I love draw. It would be lovely if I could one day become an inspiration for some people.

Jodie Vo:

I'm a big believer in backing yourself, you know you got to have the confidence to know what you're doing and where you're going.

Gina Lee:

I think it's really important that we do Inspire future generations and women to take on these type of roles.

First Building nearing completion

Walls up, roof on, windows installed, and nearing completion!

The First Building – housing industry tenants and Stage 1 of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) – is the start of a new industry-led ecosystem to connect and attract local and global industry partners and nurturing a workforce skilled for the future.

Beating heart of Bradfield City Centre

The design for Bradfield City Centre’s impressive Central Park – a beautiful, sustainable landmark city space - was unveiled in July.

A major asset for Western Sydney, residents and visitors to Bradfield City Centre will enjoy the world-class 2-hectare open space that will be the main civic, gathering place and welcoming point for visitors as they step off the short metro ride from the new Western Sydney International airport.

Central Park was Designed with Country and will be a beautiful, functional space to gather, play, rest, and connect to nature, providing a natural backdrop for arts and cultural events.

Due to open alongside the Bradfield Metro Station, it is part of more than 36 hectares of stunning open space planned for Bradfield City Centre.

Central Park features

• Iconic Skyring installation celebrating Sky Country.
• Gathering Ground for community and cultural events, with a capacity of more than 5,000 people.
• More than 570 mature trees and 73,000 native plants.
• Interwoven Heart featuring Dharug weaving and woven play to enhance exploration, play, education, shade and celebration of First Nations culture.

First land release progressing

Following an earlier expression of interest process, a shortlist of leading developers have now been invited to progress their proposals to develop Superlot 1.

Set across 4.8 hectares, Superlot 1 will provide 1,000 new homes, as well as commercial, education, research, hotel, retail, and hospitality facilities.

Located a short walk from the future Bradfield Metro Station and Central Park, people living and working in Superlot 1 will have transport options available to them from day one.

The AMRF steals the show at Australian Manufacturing Week

The Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) team showcased some of the exciting technology that will be available to businesses of all sizes at Australian Manufacturing Week.

Visitors spoke with our in-house industry experts and watched live demonstrations of the DMG Mori Multi-Axis Turn-Mill, a precision machine destined for the First Building in Bradfield City Centre.

The AMRF will play an important role in the growth of advanced manufacturing in NSW, helping local manufacturers to unlock global opportunities, scale up and create more high-value jobs for the people of Western Sydney.

How micro-credentials transformed Daria's career

We recently spoke with Daria, a Clinical Product Specialist who completed two micro-credential courses.

Can you tell us about your background?

My role is a combination of sales and technical support. It involves training and assisting medical staff on the use of a medical device before and during live surgery.

The micro-credential opened the door for me to a new field that I never considered for myself, which is a pharmaceutical field. I can definitely see myself now potentially applying all the skills that I've learned in the future.

How have you benefitted from completing the micro-credentials?

You can see real, tangible benefits out of it. It was very well structured, highly engaging, and I didn't have to spend hours on training and preparing and learning, because it was very condensed with content course, with a slow progression from basic to more advanced concepts.

What we got is a great combination of theory components, combined with a practical task under the guidance of the course facilitators and professors.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to enrol in an ISA micro-credential?

I think it's an incredible opportunity. Halfway through my course, I found it so useful and valuable, that I enrolled into the Practical Foundations of Biology. I found that everything I learned before in my first micro-credential actually complements very well, and I can build upon that knowledge as I keep going. So, you might start with one course and end up with a few.

Deadly Arts on display

To mark National Reconciliation Week 2024, we partnered with Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School to display artworks created by the talented students in the Deadly Arts program.

The program provides an opportunity for students to connect with their cultural identity and ancestral connections through art.

The exhibition highlighted the diverse and vibrant array of Deadly Arts practiced within the school, nurturing a deeper connection to culture and heritage within our community.

Thank you to all the students who created these amazing artworks for the community to enjoy!

Out and about with the community

We love getting amongst the community and chatting about all things Bradfield City Centre and the Aerotropolis.

In August, our stall was a hive of activity across two days at the Penrith Show.

We were flying high in June at the Western Sydney International (WSI) Airport Community Open Day, chatting to hundreds of visitors across the day.

In May, we joined NSW Government agencies and local councils at Bringelly Community Hall to talk to community members about projects and works underway near them.

Construction update

Development at Bradfield City Centre continues to forge ahead. Civil works are currently underway across the site until 2025, building roads and delivering in ground services to support future development.

Bradfield City Centre enabling works - September 2024

As you can see, developments forging ahead at Bradfield City Centre with the civil enabling works underway.

Craig Hardy

So, we're in the middle of our bulk earthwork stage at the moment - so we're doing cut to fill, finishing off stripping, forming up basins and starting to build roads. We'll move over 150,000 cubic metres of earth over here on this project. We've been placing over 20,000 ton of sandstone. We're installing water reuse rain gardens to capture storm water runoff and reuse that for irrigation and landscaping.

In-ground services are going in at the moment with sewer and storm water getting laid. We'll follow with portable water, electrical, and telecommunications. These services will allow development of future superlot land releases.

I'm proud to be a part of building the first city in 100 years Bradfield City. It's close to my community and yeah it looks like we're just moving dirt, but we're really, we're building a future for families.
