Privacy collection notice for the NSW Building Industry Research Panel

Who we are
Your information is being collected by Building Commission NSW, as part of the Department of Customer Service (DCS).
Building Commission NSW gives priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information, in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act).

Why we collect your personal information
Building Commission NSW, as part of the Department of Customer Service, is collecting your personal information through the NSW Building Industry Research Panel (the Panel) sign-up form.
We collect your personal information so that:
- you can join the Panel
- we can invite you to take part in research activities
- we can manage the Panel and respond to your enquiries and feedback.
The kinds of information we collect
We may collect the following information:
- your full name
- your email address
- your mobile number
- your year of birth
- your residential suburb / postcode
- your gender (optional)
- your type of employment
- your current job title and industry.
- whether you speak English as a second language (optional)
- whether you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person (optional)
- whether you work for the NSW Government.
Failure to provide information
Providing us with the requested information is entirely voluntary and not required by law. However, if you choose not to provide us with the requested information, you will not be able to sign up to participate in the Panel.
How we may use this information
We will use the personal information we collect about you to:
- Register you as a Panel member
- Select participants for research activities
- Invite you to participate in research activities
- Use your panel profile information to pre-fill responses to a research activity (if you choose to take part)
- Use your panel member profile information to identify who a response belongs to for Panel administrative purposes
- Unsubscribe and resubscribe you to specific research activities, as indicated by you.
How we may disclose this information
Unless stated otherwise, we will not disclose your personal information to any other party, unless you have given consent, or we are authorised or permitted to do so by law.
De-identified and aggregated information on the Panel may be shared and/or published internally within NSW Government or externally with other governments or other third parties.
Protecting your information
We will store and manage your information in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. We have measures in place to protect your personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse.
We will only keep information for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. After this time, the information will be disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and any other applicable legislation.
