Who we are
Your information is being collected by the Building Commission NSW, as part of the Department of Customer Service (DCS).
Building Commission NSW gives priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information, in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act).

Why we collect your personal information
Building Commission NSW, as part of the Department of Customer Service is collecting your personal information for the purposes of understanding your experience of completing and submitting a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) after completing a safety and compliance test on an electrical installation, and how we can improve your experience.
The kinds of information we collect
We may collect the following information:
- your full name
- your email address
- residential suburb
- whether you speak English as a second language
- information about your employment (e.g., full time, part time, sole trader, contractor, team size).
We may also ask you to verify your trade licence.
Failure to provide information
Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. However, if you choose not to provide us with the requested information, your views and ideas will not be included in the project.
How we may use this information
All information we disclose about you will be de-identified. Any personal information we collect will only be used for the purpose of research for the Project.
If you consent, you will be asked to participate in a 1-hour interview (online, Microsoft Teams). We will be recording (video and audio), transcribing, and making notes during the interview with your permission.
How we may disclose this information
We may disclose de-identified results of the research findings with relevant government agencies and other teams within DCS.
We will not provide your personal information to third parties for any purposes not already stated in this privacy collection notice, or to which you have not otherwise consented, unless DCS is required, or authorised, by law to do so.
Protecting your information
We will store and manage your information in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. We have measures in place to protect your personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse.
Video and audio recordings will be deleted within 6 weeks from the date of their creation. Consent forms, de-identified notes, and transcripts will be retained for 5 years in accordance with NSW Government recordkeeping requirements.
We will only keep information for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. After this time, the information will be disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and any other applicable legislation.
