Privacy collection notice for public register suppression request
Learn how Building Commission NSW collects, uses and protects your personal information when you request to have your details suppressed from the public register.
Who we are
Your information is being collected by the Building Commission NSW, as part of the Department of Customer Service (DCS).
Building Commission NSW gives priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information, in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act) and Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act).

Why we collect your personal information
Building Commission NSW, as part of the Department of Customer Service, is collecting your personal information for the purposes of assessing your suppression request and making a determination in accordance with section 58 of the PPIP Act.
What personal information we collect
We may collect the following information:
- your full name and contact details (including your telephone number and email address)
- your date of birth
- your licence, registration or authority number
- supporting documents*.
*Any supporting documents or evidence provided with your Suppression Request form will be retained for 28 days only. Supporting documents or evidence will be securely disposed of once the documents have been viewed and noted by the office as part of the determination process.
Are you required by law to provide us with this information?
Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. However if you choose not to provide us with the requested information we may not be able to process your suppression request.
How we may use this information
We will use the personal information we collect about you to assess your suppression request and make a determination in accordance with section 58 of the PPIP Act. We may also use the information for internal administrative purposes, including liaising with you in relation to your request and, where applicable, updating the public register.
Who we may share your information with
We will not disclose your information to anybody unless we are authorised or permitted to do so by law or where you have given consent. For further information, please see our Privacy Notice.
Protecting your information
We will store and manage your information in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. We have measures in place to help protect your personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse.
We will only keep information for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. After which, the information will be disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and any other applicable legislation.
