Office of Artificial Intelligence

The Premier created a new Office of Artificial Intelligence in The Cabinet Office to strengthen and accelerate the Government’s response to the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence.
The OAI will strengthen whole-of-government leadership, and provide coordination and oversight of NSW's AI agenda. Functions will include:
- leading the NSW Government’s public policy on AI, including advising the Government on AI issues affecting citizens, democratic institutions, the economy, businesses, and service delivery
- advising on AI regulation, standards and emerging risks
- addressing economic, industry, infrastructure and societal impacts of AI
- coordinating NSW positions with Commonwealth, including working with the Australian Government’s Office of AI recently established in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
- engaging with industry and other jurisdictions.
The Office of AI will work closely with:
- Digital NSW in Department of Customer Service, which will continue to lead coordination of government investment in the digital, cyber and data foundations required to support AI adoption.
- The Premier's Department Industrial Relations Branch, which will continue to work with public sector unions to ensure AI supports workers, strengthens capability and is implemented responsibly across the public sector.
