Have your say on name of new suburb in the Liverpool and Penrith LGAs for the Western Sydney International Airport
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal to create a new suburb named Wianamatta for the site encompassing the Western Sydney International Airport.
The proposed name Wianamatta is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘Mother Place’. ‘Wiana’ meaning mother and 'Matta’ meaning place.
Establishing the new suburb allows the airport site to be located within a single suburb, improving service delivery and public wayfinding. The proposed suburb is bounded by Elizabeth Drive, The Northern Road and the Badgerys Creek Environmental Conservation Zone, with the recently created suburb of Bradfield to its south.
The new suburb will see amendments to the suburb boundaries of Badgerys Creek, Bringelly, Luddenham and Greendale.
The Geographical Names Board is the authority for place naming in NSW. GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name and suggestions for alternative names are not being sought currently.
The NSW Government’s ‘Have Your Say’ is the community’s opportunity to share opinions on new projects, services and government policy.
Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s website.

NSW Surveyor-General Thomas Grinter said:
“Well defined suburb boundaries help strengthen community identity and improve everyday navigation.”
"Every name encapsulates a suburb's identity, and we hope this name will capture exactly that."
“Community consultation on the proposed name ensures that all perspectives are considered when making decisions and provides an opportunity to the public to share their feedback.”
