Since 24 March, SafeWork NSW has been on the ground providing expert advice and conducting compliance activities to keep attendees and workers safe. Key focus areas include amusement rides, forklift safety, traffic management, fall prevention, fireworks displays and the safe storage of fireworks and gas for food and beverage stalls.
The critical bump-in and bump-out phases present heightened risks, with workers setting up and dismantling structures, navigating busy walkways, and operating heavy machinery in a high-traffic environment.
SafeWork NSW is prioritising the safety of workers during these crucial phases. Inspectors are focusing on ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment and that all high-risk tasks are carried out by licensed professionals.
Engineers have completed audits on select high-risk amusement rides to assist in ensuring compliance with the Work Health and Safety Regulations as per the National Audit Tool, with operators required to complete thorough inspections, maintenance, and safety checks before any ride is allowed to operate.
This Easter, SafeWork NSW has issued 23 notices to protect families and workers by addressing safety risks to ensure all rides, stalls, and activities meet strict safety standards.
SafeWork NSW will be on-site throughout the duration of the event, responding to incidents and concerns raised about non-compliances as the safety of all attendees is paramount.
