Disability legislation and standards ensure legal compliance, uphold the rights of people with disability, support advocacy, and guide effective resource allocation. Our Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) was developed in line with the following legislation, strategies and policies:

| The Act | The Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW) provides the legal framework for this plan. It outlines the principles and responsibilities of NSW Government departments, prescribed agencies, and local councils in supporting disability inclusion. |
| ADS | Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031 is a national strategy to create a more inclusive society, where people with disability can participate fully and reach their potential as equal members of the community. |
| DCS | The Department of Customer Service delivers digital, customer focused services and oversees key regulatory functions to support fair, efficient, and effective outcomes for the people of NSW. |
| DCS Inclusion Steering Committee | The DCS Inclusion Steering Committee applies an intersectional approach to ensure alignment and integration across diversity dimensions, DCS policies and strategies and broader sector-wide requirements. |
| Disability ERG | The Disability Employee Resource Group is an employee network that gives a voice to employees with disability, enabling them to feel safe and confident to access the support that they need. The Disability ERG’s aim is to embed the social model of disability by driving education, raising psychological safety, championing systematic change and being the central point for advocacy and consultation on policy affecting employees with disability. |
| DIAP | The DCS Disability Inclusion Action Plan sets out the actions DCS will take to identify, reduce, and remove barriers for employees, customers, and the community. |
| DIP | The NSW Disability Inclusion Plan 2026-2029 is the whole of government strategy that sets the direction for improving outcomes for people with disability. It guides the development of Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs), including this plan. |
| DRC | The Disability Royal Commission was a national inquiry into the violence against, and the neglect, abuse, and exploitation of people with disability. |
| ELT | The DCS Executive Leadership Team (ELT) is the senior leadership group within DCS responsible for setting strategic direction, making key decisions, and overseeing organisational performance and governance. |
| GEAP | Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) is an inclusion plan that sets out actions to promote gender equality within DCS. |
| GSA | Get Skilled Access (GSA) is a disability inclusion and accessibility consultancy with lived experience and expertise. |
| LGBTIQA+ SB | A term used to recognise the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and other sexually or diverse communities. The SB acknowledges the trans women and trans men within many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. |
| NDIS | National Disability Insurance Scheme provides funding to eligible people with disability to access reasonable and necessary supports and services. |
| PMES | The NSW People Matter Employee Survey is the NSW public sector’s annual employee opinion survey, which asks employees about their experience and perceptions of a range of workplace issues and practices, including diversity and inclusion. |
