Privacy
The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust meets the standards for protecting personal information set by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
The Act sets the rules for how we collect, use, disclose and store your personal information and our privacy policy is outlined on the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water's privacy page.
What personal information do we collect?
The types of personal information we may collect or be provided with include, but are not limited to:
- Your name and contact details, such as your email address, phone number and property information.
- Geospatial information that identifies where a proposed or actual conservation area is.
- Your date of birth and financial information to establish and manage your conservation agreement or partner agreement.
- Sensitive information for specific assessment. This will be confirmed with you, if needed.
How is personal information used?
This information may be used:
- to deliver services to conservation agreement-holders
- to manage and improve how we contact you
- to promote conservation offers, events, and opportunities
- for research, surveys, and collaborative projects that support conservation outcomes
- to comply with legal or professional obligations.
Disclosure of personal information
- We will not disclose personal information for secondary purposes without your consent.
- We may disclose personal information to law enforcement or government agencies to comply with legal obligations. For example, under the Government Information (Public Access) Act (2009) (GIPA).
- We may share de-identified or aggregated data for analytics and research.

Reporting fraud, corruption and misconduct
The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has zero tolerance for fraud, corruption and other forms of serious wrongdoing.
If you suspect fraud, corruption or any other type of serious wrongdoing by an employee or other person working for the Department, we encourage you to make a report. This will go to a specialist team that deals with reported matters of potential or actual serious wrongdoing.
You may remain anonymous. Personal details are not required to be provided. This is further explained when you submit a report.

Any person may assist us in preventing unethical practices by reporting serious wrongdoing, such as fraudulent or corrupt behaviour.
- Members of the public including third party contractors or other stakeholders may raise actual or suspected wrongdoing.
- All public servants, including our staff, are provided with secure means and training to report wrongdoing however may also choose to report using the link above.
Our Business Plan outlines the ethical principles we are guided by in business relationships with external parties and is underpinned by a Code of Ethics and Conduct (the Code).
Public Interest Disclosure
The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust has adopted the Public Interest Disclosure Policy of the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and has an arrangement, that from 14 July, 2025, supports and manages our responsibilities under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2022 (NSW).

How to access information under GIPA
You can request access to information such as policies, procedures, reports, or statistics under the Government Information (Public Access) Act (2009) (GIPA).
This Act gives you the right to request any information we have unless there is a good reason not to give it to you.
