Key information
As part of the Good Neighbours Program, North West Local Land Services will work with Tamworth’s Local Control Authorities to develop and deliver a Peri-urban Pest Plan.
This plan will guide on-ground work to target common pest animals and reduce their impact on the local community and environment.
Project background
The increasing number of pest animals on the fringes of regional towns is a problem in many communities, including Tamworth.
Many peri-urban areas include small, private acreage alongside public land.
Pest animals including feral goats, pigs and deer thrive in these peri-urban environments.
Project delivery
Work on the Tamworth Peri-urban Pest Plan will begin in 2025.
The project will:
- support the North West Local Land Services region with invasive species management
- supply resources to help with on-ground work
- engage with Local Control Authorities, pest controllers and private landholders
- improve local community knowledge of their General Biosecurity Duty.
Funding and partnerships
Partners working alongside Local Land Services include:
- Tamworth Regional Council
- Crown Lands
- residential landholders
- rural property owners and managers.
The Tamworth Peri-urban Pest Plan is funded by the Good Neighbours Program as part of the NSW Government’s $10 million commitment to strengthening biosecurity in NSW.
