Department of Regional NSW Director, Inclusive Infrastructure, Placemaking and Experience Paul Nunnari said the SUBPAC vest roll-out is part of a wider strategy to promote diversity and inclusion.
Mr Nunnari said SUBPAC vests accurately transfer audio into a multi-sensory tactile experience, providing users with the ability to physically feel the beat of music.
“The NSW government and event organisers have been working together to make accessibility and inclusion a key priority at all public events,” Mr Nunnari said.
“We also welcome our Australian first partnership with SUBPAC in being the first to roll out this inclusive technology across regional NSW.
“The delivery of SUBPAC vests is the result of the Department’s Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) which was launched in December 2021. DIAP considered ways the Department can encourage disability inclusion inside the organization and outside in the wider community.
“We will use the learning of the Tamworth Country Music trial to develop a program which will make this technology available to other marquee events across regional NSW.”
Toyota Tamworth Country Music Festival Manager Barry Harley said the SUBPAC vests will allow members of the d/Deaf community the opportunity to immerse themselves in all the event has to offer.
“Toyota Tamworth Country Music Festival prides itself on being an inclusive and family friendly event,” Mr Harley said.
“We review our diversity and inclusion policy annually to ensure we are constantly delivering an accessible experience to a diverse audience.
“SUBPAC vests will be available to any person with a sensory disability, allowing them to have greater engagement with concerts at key festival sites including the Toyota Park Stage and FanZone.
“The Country Music Festival is excited to partner with the Department of Regional NSW on trialling this technology which will make the event a more enjoyable experience for a greater number of patrons.”
