Briefings to connect South West businesses to local work
Local businesses are encouraged to attend one of a series of industry briefings to learn about upcoming work opportunities related to major projects in the region, including the South West Renewable Energy Zone.
The briefings are being delivered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in collaboration with EnergyCo and will outline upcoming infrastructure projects and connect businesses with industry stakeholders.
Some of the major works in the pipeline include the construction of wind farms, battery storage, solar and temporary worker accommodation.
The briefings at Buronga, Hay, Deniliquin and Griffith will include presentations from the major contractors managing the projects who will outline the work opportunities for the next six months, as well as procurement processes and timeframes.
The sessions will include a networking opportunity where businesses can meet industry representatives of major contracts and Government representatives who are able to provide targeted support.
A broad range of local businesses are encouraged to register as the type of work and services required for these projects will be wide ranging including trades, earthmoving, hospitality, fencing, cleaning services and the supply of goods.
This is the first round of briefings in the region, with more expected to be held later this year.
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Executive Director of Regional Economic Development Ian Smith said the briefings will inform local businesses of upcoming work in the region and connect them with industry stakeholders.
“We want to ensure local businesses and Aboriginal organisations are ready to take advantage of opportunities in the South West Renewable Energy Zone by providing them with the knowledge and tools needed to bid for work,” Mr Smith said.
“By outlining future projects and supporting businesses to upskill, we’re helping them prepare for growth and long-term success.
“Our regional economic development team can provide on-the-ground support to help local businesses take the opportunity with both hands”
I encourage local businesses to register and attend these briefings, and look forward to rolling out more throughout the year.”
