Exemption to display fuel price where fuel is not available
Purpose
This Statement of Regulatory Intent sets out NSW Fair Trading’s regulatory approach to fuel price displays, where fuel is not available.
Enforcement Approach
Fuel retailers are required to display the standard retail price for at least 4 fuels (or all fuels if fewer are sold) on their sign (1). On-the-spot fines and penalties ordinarily apply for non-compliance.
However, given current fuel security issues, where a fuel type is unavailable, fuel retailers will be permitted to display the price of that fuel type as blank, until it becomes available again. NSW Fair Trading will not take action in these instances.
This regulatory approach applies until further notice.
