NSW Fair Trading has investigated and prosecuted Mr Taleb Chahin for odometer tampering and consumer fraud in relation to the sale of second-hand vehicles.
The investigation identified 5 second-hand utility vehicles, some acquired from auction houses with high mileage and in fair to average condition. Each vehicle had its odometer intentionally reduced while in the possession of the defendant.
The defendant, Taleb Chahin, was not the holder of a Motor Dealer Licence and operated as the proprietor of Prestige Detailing Centre, Chipping Norton, during the period of offending.
NSW Police charged the defendant with 3 counts of fraud under the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW), based on the investigation and evidence gathered by NSW Fair Trading. Police Prosecutors filed the Court Attendance Notices and conducted the prosecution.
On 9 April 2026, Mr Chahin was convicted on all three charges and sentenced in the NSW Local Court to:
- an 18-month Community Correction Order, and
- 150 hours of community service.
NSW Fair Trading will continue to investigate odometer tampering, false documentation and unlicensed motor dealing and will take action to protect consumers and uphold integrity in the motor vehicle industry.
