A Menopause Symposium is being hosted in Broken Hill on 20 June 2024 giving locals an opportunity to learn more about menopause and peri-menopause symptoms and management.
Far West Local Health District’s Integrated Care Manager, Becky Smith said the Symposium builds on the success of last year’s Symposium.
“The 2023 Menopause Symposium received positive feedback, and a new menopause service for the District was built based on input provided by community members and local GPs,” Ms Smith said.
“This year we are again asking for the community’s feedback on how we can continue to improve the service for our District.
“We will also talk about menopause and peri-menopause, and women's health in a welcoming environment.”
Dr Alastair Morris, Clinical Director and Senior Staff Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Royal North Shore Hospital, said staff from the District’s referral hub for complex menopause management, will be in attendance, along with the FWLHD menopause healthcare team including an exercise physiologist and women’s health nurse.
Ms Smith said there will also be two exciting announcements at the event.
“At the session we will reveal the name for our new women's wellness group and the successful Aboriginal artist who will be commissioned to create a piece representing women's health,” Ms Smith said.
The Menopause Symposium 2024 will be held on Thursday, 20 June 2024 at the Broken Hill Civic Centre Function Room 2 from 4 to 5pm (ACST). Doors open at 3.30pm with light refreshments provided. There will also be a GP session from 6.00pm at the Civic Centre in Broken Hill.
The team will also be visiting Menindee Health Service on Friday 21 June from 10am to 12noon for a meet and greet at the Health Service. Anyone is welcome to come along and meet the team for an informal Q & A.
