Hospital holiday services for Christmas and New Year
Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) would like to remind the local community that our hospital emergency departments will be open 24-hours a day, and emergency surgery will continue to be performed over the Christmas and New Year period.
Chief Executive, Mark Dykgraaf said unplanned and emergency surgery will continue to be performed at Broken Hill Health Service, including essential procedures, such as renal dialysis, during the holiday period.
“Our emergency departments will continue to operate around the clock for our community in their time of need,” Mr Dykgraaf said
“If an illness or injury is not serious or life-threatening, we encourage people to call Healthdirect Australia on 1800 022 222, for 24-hour telephone health advice. A nurse will answer your call, ask some questions and connect you with the right care.”
For non-emergency care, the community can also contact their local GP, medical centre, or pharmacist.
In the event of a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000).
Mr Dykgraaf extended his thanks to all FWLHD staff for their commitment and efforts during the year in caring for their community.
“As 2025 ends and we move towards 2026, I wish to acknowledge and thank all staff at our facilities and services who continue to provide quality care for our patients and clients to ensure they have the best health outcomes,” he said.
