Pregnancy and Maternity Care in Far West
All pregnant women in the Far West LHD have free access to care throughout their pregnancy, birth and early weeks of parenting.
Broken Hill Pregnancy and Maternity Services
Broken Hill Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) offers pregnancy and maternity services to women in Broken Hill and surrounding areas.
Broken Hill Health Service offers the following maternity services:
- antenatal care from early pregnancy and postnatal care to 2 weeks post-birth
- parenting classes
- coordinated care for women with early pregnancy complications within the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS)
- obstetric and paediatric medical service
- special care nursery services
- lactation consultant.
Women expected to have a low-to-medium risk birth can give birth in Broken Hill Hospital.
We work closely with birth hospitals and neo-natal intensive care in Adelaide for women expected to have higher risk births.

Buronga & Dareton Pregnancy and Maternity Services
Free and confidential pregnancy care services are available at Buronga HealthOne and Dareton Health Clinic for residents in the Wentworth and Balranald Local Government Areas.
Our Midwifery Antenatal and Post-Natal Service (MAPS) offers care throughout your pregnancy from a continuity Midwife, and an Aboriginal Health Worker. We work in conjunction with the Mildura Base Public Hospital for your care.
