Have your say on a place name in Blacktown LGA
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Blacktown City Council to name a new plaza in Blacktown as Tony Bleasdale Plaza.
The plaza is located on the section of Flushcombe Road proposed for closure between Civil Lane and the Blacktown Workers Club in Blacktown, within the Blacktown Local Government Area.
The proposed name commemorates the late Emeritus Mayor Anthony John (Tony) Bleasdale OAM (22/11/1946 - 3/5/2024) a highly respected community leader and one of Blacktown City Council's longest-serving elected representatives.
Mr Bleasdale served the Blacktown community as a Councillor for more than 23 years between 1996 and 2024. During that time, he also held the roles of Deputy Mayor from 2016 to 2019 and Mayor from 2019 until his passing in 2024.
Through his longstanding commitment to public service and local government, Mr Bleasdale played a significant role in the growth and development of Blacktown City and Western Sydney. Naming the plaza in his honour would provide a lasting tribute to his distinguished service and recognise the enduring legacy he leaves for the community he served with dedication and pride.
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name and suggestions for alternative names are not being sought at this time.
Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website, under current proposals.
Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to:
The Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.
The closing date for submissions is 25 October 2026.
