Have your say on a place name in the City of Parramatta LGA
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by City of Parramatta Council to name a reserve in Melrose Park as Millstone Park.
The proposed reserve is located at the intersection of Rose Bush Street and Hildegarde Boulevard, Melrose Park City of Parramatta Local Government Area.
The proposed name references Reckitt's blue or laundry blue, a traditional laundry whitening agent, produced by the former Reckitt and Colman factory on Wharf Road, Melrose Park, until its discontinuation in 2015.
The product was popular from the Victorian era to the mid-20th century, used to counteract yellowing in white fabrics by adding a trace of blue pigment.
The name acknowledges the precinct's industrial heritage, including the historic millstones that remain on site. It also reflects the ongoing commitment to recognise Melrose Park's industrial past and historic local manufacturing activities.
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name and suggestions for alternative names are not being sought at this time.
