Have your say on a place name in the City of Parramatta LGA
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by the City of Parramatta to name a reserve in Ermington as Bertie Park.
The proposed reserve name Bertie is associated with Bertie the Aeroplane that was introduced as Aeroplane Jelly's mascot in 1942. Bertie was named after the brands creator Adolphus (Bert) Appleroth and has become an iconic part of Australian culture associated with the jelly brand.
The proposed park name aims to reflect Melrose Park's industrial heritage and local manufacturers which remain consistent with previous stages of naming within the precinct.
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name and suggestions for alternative names are not being sought at this time.
Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website.
Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to:
The Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.
The closing date for submissions is 10 May 2026.
