Have your say on two place names in City of Sydney LGA
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on two proposals by City of Sydney Council.
The first proposal is to name a reserve located at 19-25 Lyons Road, Camperdown, as Daranggara Park.
The proposed name Daranggara Park (pronounced Da-ran-gara) means Cabbage Tree Palm in Gadigal language. The name references the hard, resilient plants currently in the park and common to the area.
The second proposal is to name a civic place located in front of the Salesforce Tower at 180 George Street, Sydney, as Ngana Gili Plaza.
The name was suggested by the First Nations artist Daniel Boyd who designed the artwork suspended above the plaza. Ngana Gili means 'black light' in the local Gadigal language. This name references astronomy and the movement of sun and moonlight seen through the circles cut out of the artwork's black canopy.
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name and suggestions for alternative names are not being sought at the time.
Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website.
Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to:
The Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.
The closing date for submissions is 10 May 2026.
