Local artist to create new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital main entry artwork
Local Walbunja, Ngarigo artist Cheryl Davison has been selected to produce an artwork, which will feature in the main entrance of the new $330 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital.
Ms Davison has worked as a multidisciplinary artist for more than 40 years, her practice is grounded in storytelling and a deep connection to culture, Country and community.
Through the art commission, Cheryl Davison will contribute to a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, staff and families visiting the new hospital. The artwork will share the principle of Walawaani, the spirit of welcome and safe journey to and across place, with staff, visitors, families and neighbours as they arrive and enter the hospital.
The new artwork will form part of the hospital’s broader arts and culture strategy, developed in partnership with the local community to ensure the new health facility reflects the spirit and identity of the region.
Health Infrastructure’s Arts in Health Program, guides the inclusion of arts into the NSW healthcare system to improve patient, staff and carer experiences in health services. The commissioning of artworks is carried out in collaboration with NSW Health staff and the community.
Delivered in partnership with Health Infrastructure and Southern NSW Local Health District, the project is expected to be completed in 2027 and will provide expanded and enhanced health services for the Eurobodalla community, bringing more care closer to home.
In the coming weeks, Ms Davison will meet with First Nations Knowledge Holders, Elders, storytellers, and locally connected community members who will help further develop the concept for the artwork. To find out more contact: Barra-gi Consulting at rae@barra-giconsulting.com.au.
