$790 million Liverpool Hospital transformation begins
The first sod has been turned on a new six-storey hospital tower being delivered as part of the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct.
The Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct is one of the state's largest hospital redevelopment projects designed to cater to the area's growing population. It will include:
- a new integrated cancer centre
- an expanded emergency department
- a new and larger neonatal intensive care unit and 6 new in-patient units including paediatric, maternity and women's health services.
To support education and employment opportunities for local workers during construction and beyond, project builder Lendlease has opened a new skilling and employment hub next to the hospital site.
Working in partnership with NSW Health, NSW TAFE and Liverpool City Council, the hub will offer a range of construction pre-employment programs for workers.
It will also offer Aboriginal employment initiatives and support people of all ages to acquire new skills for construction and health-related roles. The redevelopment will transform healthcare services for south-west Sydney and will support around 850 construction jobs, with the potential for thousands of jobs over the project's life.
